Chapter 1 – The Topography of Meri Mati Farm

Now once we bought the land, the most important aspect and prospect of that land was to observe it, to watch it, and to learn how to proceed with that huge land mass because we know that moment we start our project to this mental few or many things and then start something else, so we had to be very careful to learn and observe the topography of our land so that nothing goes wrong.

I went from one corner to the other and literally observed each and every corner of my land as it was surrounded by a huge mountain range which was in a way very beneficial for us; because I knew geographically also it will help us in turning the wind direction. It could be a barrier for the wind to bracket and also that it might cast the velocity we may also get a whole lot of water which falls on the hill.

The hill had many natural flowing streams through out criss crossing it from one corner to the other and also did brought a whole lot of soil sediments on the mouth of the place where water was entering from the hill which made me conclude that a whole lot of Alluvial soil has been eroded from the mountain top and also throughout the mountain the water carried with it a whole lot of Alluvial soil and sedimented it in the form of a delta which was very fertile.

Thus it this hill was a very positive plus point for our land so that was very much highlighted, then I again and again visited that site to confirm it where does the water come from what are its merits and demerits.

The erosion of soil was a result of unscrupulous chopping of trees from the mountains which these villagers do on an off which was one of my main agenda to stop them from chopping those trees even that roots of many of these trees which are native to this place were exposed and I knew it that within no time if we don’t take serious steps they could be eroded afterwards we started stopping them from chopping trees.

The best part was that the sedimented delta which was gifted to me from the mountain behind and also from the sedimented deposits we had plenty many seeds from the native trees because once the water flows from top to bottom it also carried with it a whole bunch of seeds so that was an added bonus to us it deposited all the seeds on that sediment.

It is our joining land and it is making a more fertile boundary for us because those trees were little in their middle aged growth and they share all the leaves and everything there down below in our land does making it more fertile and also it gives rise to beautiful system for our Meri Mati.

So friends these were all the characters that I had observed and it took me quite a long time, a whole lot of native trees which were all very old but were chopped short by the locals as they plug the leaves and also the fruits of those trees thus making them genetically retarded as mentioned earlier.

My land was under this mountain range my land also had many rocks and gravel and pebbles but I love rocks and that give a different character to my land it added different features to my land there were many ups and downs.

The land was very bumpy from head to toe but we loved every bit of it as for me a land without any features is a flat land for me and I compare it to a flat face the land was very naked and bear due to soil erosion which was the challenge for us to stop soil erosion as the top soil is the most fertile soil of any land mass after whole lot of arguments discussions and Brain drain we made a checklist of what to be done and what not to be done the colour of the soil was quite reddish black and it had a beautiful texture but it was little dry and arid as well so our Moto was to make the soil moist which could only be done by water works and also that we had a special place for these native varieties so our also Moto was to preserve them and protect them from further cutting and shopping our first step would have been to cover the top and that could be best done by grass.
